Moorings in Fleet Dyke

South Walsham Broad can be found at the head of Fleet Dyke.  The dyke is a mile long with numerous opportunities to moor.

The free moorings pictured above in Fleet Dyke are the ones nearest to the broad and within walking distance of the village and the nearby Fairhaven Garden Trust.

Village Staithe, South Walsham Broad

The village staithe and slipway is situated in the south eastern corner of the broad.

The water at the staithe is very shallow and is only suitable for rowing boats to moor.

Private moorings, South Walsham Broad

Adjacent to the staithe is a small dyke, the dyke is for private craft only.

Outer Broad, South Walsham

South Walsham Broad is in two parts, the outer broad pictured above is available for cruising and mooring by mud weight. The inner broad is private but is open to navigation, mooring is not allowed.

From either the village staithe or the moorings on Fleet Dyke it is just a short walk of a few miles to The Fairhaven Garden Trust.  The garden was left in trust by the 2nd Lord Fairhaven in 1973, and was opened to the public in 1975. The garden is renowned for its fabulous collection of candelabra primulas.  It is also well known for magnificent Autumn Colours in late October and early November.  Boat Trips on a Edwardian-style launch 'Primrose' run every day from April to the end of October.

Cottage near Pilson Green, South Walsham Broad

If you just want a short stroll then there is a pleasant circular walk to Pilson Green and back from the staithe. Turn right just after the staithe and follow the lane alongside the broad passing attractive cottages to Pilson Green.  Here turn left and follow the lane back to the staithe.
