Sutton & Sutton Broad

Sutton Broad

Sutton Broad has shrunk over the years and now the navigable section is no wider than the Bure or Yare.

The moorings in the dyke at Sutton

On approaching Sutton the broad narrows into a long dyke. There are moorings on the left bank right up to the staithe. The first mooring is an ideal spot in the spring, as the sun sets over the broad. The dyke is narrow and large craft may find it difficult to turn.

Sutton Staithe

The dyke opens out on reaching Sutton Staithe. There is a large grassy area adjacent to the staithe with an information point.

Sutton Staithe Hotel & Information Point

The information pinpoints local attractions like Sutton Windmill and Sutton Pottery, both within walking distance of the staithe.

Sutton Mill is the tallest in the country, there are extensive views over the Broads from the viewing gallery.  Housed inside is a museum of social life, with exhibits including banknotes, wash tubs, boots and shoes and many other interesting items.

Sutton Pottery specialises in tableware made on the premises by Malcolm Flatman.

The Sutton Staithe Hotel & Restaurant is right next to the staithe.

Sutton Staithe

Although the moorings along the dyke are quickly taken up, there is usually space at the end of the staithe.
