How HIll

How Hill, the Norfolk Broads Study Centre, is famous for its gardens. There are two separate gardens at How Hill. Near the house are the formal Edwardian gardens with their famous Yew Hedges and extensive views over the marshes. Hidden away in the woods are the unique bog gardens, dominated in late Spring by Azaleas and Rhododendrons. The house is not open to the public, but the gardens can be glimpsed from the staithe.

The Freshwater Ecology Centre is situated just away from the main river and is part of the Clearwater 2000 project. Made from sustainable materials wherever possible, parts of the building have been made from trees cleared from the site.

The building won the 'Green Building Award' in North Norfolk District Council's Environment Awards Scheme and also a Norfolk Society Award, in recognition of its sustainable design, materials and construction.

The laboratory and studio teaching room are now available to all educational groups visiting How Hill.
