Burgh St Peter & The Waveney River Centre

Eddie II at the Waveney River Centre

This 3.5 metre leaping pike made of galvanised steel was inspired by a trophy on display in the Waveney Inn and marks the entrance to Burgh St Peter and the Waveney River Centre.  The sculpture is entitled Eddie II and is by Pete Rogers & Alex Hallowes.

Waveney River Centre

There are good moorings at the marina, free for short stays, a charge is levied if you wish to stay longer.

The centre is in a delightful setting surrounded by trees with a grassy bank rising gently from the quay. There are good views from here over the Waveney Valley. The village of Burgh St Peter is just under 2 miles from the centre and has a post office and general store.

The Waveney Inn

The Waveney Inn is situated just behind the marina and offers visitors a children's entertainment room, restaurant and carvery. Entertainment includes Karaoke and live bands throughout the season.

Mariners Stores, Waveney River Centre

The Mariner's Stores has been completely rebuilt and stocks chandlery, fishing tackle, general groceries, camping gear, clothing and local gifts. Two luxury holiday apartments above the shop feature views over the marshes and the River Waveney.

Play Area

The centre has a range of holiday accommodation including apartments, lodges and caravans. Day boats can be hired for exploring Oulton Broad and the Waveney Valley.

Also at the centre there is a Heated indoor pool, sauna, spa bath, gym and a children's adventure play area.

The 20 year Broadland Flood Alleviation Project is ongoing.  All around the broads work is being carried out to alleviate the problem of rising tides and increased winter rainfall caused by climate change.

Floods

The photographs above were taken in September 2003. Heavy rain over the previous 24 hours had caused the river level to rise, this was added to by an onshore wind holding the tide back. The whole of the quay and surrounding area was flooded with only a couple of mooring points being useable.

St Marys Church, Burgh St. Peter

The unusual church of St. Marys is just a short walk away from the river centre and is definitely worth a visit.
