I went on the broads as a child. The boat stank to high heaven and my family and I all contracted severe gastro which I can still remember to this day (some 27 years on!!) Luckily I go abroad these days and the memories of that fateful 5 days are slowly fading.

Pete's comments   You're missing out Chris, come back and give the Broads a second chance :-)

Just stumbled onto your web site - as a first-timer I found it full of useful info, so have printed off stuff to take with us on our 4-night break at the beginning of June. One thing missing though - some indication as to how long it might take from, say, Irstead to Ant Mouth, or Potter Heigham to Thurne Mouth. It's just that I can't gauge how far we can expect to go during the 3 1/2 days we'll have the boat.

Hi

Just back from our second visit to the broads, and our first trip round the prettier but bussier northern rivers - scenery and wildlife fantastic but difficult to find moorings in popular places - we didn't get to see Horning at all even though we passed through twice!!

Thank you for the guides, they were really useful in helping us plan a route and see the things which interested us, also took out some of the uncertainty by knowing where to find food! There are a couple of things I wanted to point out which you may wish to add/change. The Ferry Inn at Horning Ferry was boarded up and the moorings closed off, don't know if this is recent or temporary? Also we spent one night near Wroxham broad and on leaving in the morning pulled into the little mooring near the nature trail by Horning Great broad. The children were all suited and booted for the trail, cameras in hand, only to find that it doesn't open until 10 am. As it wasn't quite 9 we had to give it a miss as we wanted to move on, you could include this in your guide for other potential trailers.

Thanks again

Words cannot express with what pleasure I roamed your site. It's the trip I never took and I'm afraid it's too late. I wonder if you know of a book about two chaps and a girl who did a cruise on the Broads (It was a humorous book called "The Art and (something) of Boating" and described crusing the Broads as "boating about in muck". There was something about an ancestor of the main hero who was an old sailor called "Ol' Jem Green". If this sounds familiar to anyone I would deeply appreciate the title and author. I lost the book somewhere in my travels in the last forty years or so.
